Community Guidelines help create a safe and fun experience for all Community members and the Trading Post community of buyers and sellers.
All content submitted to the Community Sites is moderated and all posts need to be in line with the Community Terms of Use.
What is Community?
Community sites are a place to trade ideas, tips, and general information.
You can,
- share your videos and photos
- contribute to discussions
- ask questions
- write articles
- network with other like minded individuals.
One thing to note though the Community sites are not for queries about individual ads or any queries you have about advertising with us - we have a dedicated Customer Care Team that are standing by to assist with those queries!
How do I use the discussion forums?
To get started, click on the Discussions tab from the Community homepage to view the discussion forum..
From here you can:
Read
- Scroll through the forum to find the topic or question that grabs you.
- Click on any discussion to read what other Trading Post members are saying.
Post a reply
If there's something in a forum you want to respond to,
- enter your response in the text box provided.
- click Post Reply when you're done.
- you can also include the original posting in your reply - to do so click the Quote link located below the post you would like to quote.
Note: When you quote a post a line of HTML code is added to your post and will look something like this [quote][b]user said:[/b] This is the discussion post you have selected to quote :)[/quote] the quote will appear without HTML as intended once you submit your reply.
Add a discussion
Got a question? Have something to say on a brand new topic? Want to share some advice? Then why not share it with the Community.
- Click Add Discussion and write a title for your post in the name field provided.
- Enter some key words in the Keywords Tags field (this will help others find your post) and type away!

My Discussions
Keep a track of discussions you have started and participated in by clicking the My Discussion button from the discussions page. You can also access this information via the My Profile page.
Adding photos to your discussion
Adding photos to your discussion is easy but takes some advanced planning.
- Before you begin writing your post, upload the photos you are planning to include by following the instructions outlined below in ‘How do I submit photos?’
- After you submit your photos, they will appear in the photo gallery.
- Go to the Discussions page and add your discussion.
- You will notice that the photos you have added are now available for inclusion in your post.
- To add a photo simply click the photo you want to include.
- You will notice some HTML code similar to this [img]img/gallery/normal/8WX67L8D.jpg[/img] has now been automatically added to your discussion. The photo is now included in your post and will appear when your post is published.
How do I submit photos?
To view photos other members have added to Community, click on the Photo tab from the community homepage.
From here you can:
View
Scroll through the pages to view photos that interest you.
Comment & vote
If there's a photo you want to comment on.
- Click the photo and post your comment in the text area provided.
- You can also include the original posting in your reply - to do so click the Quote link located below the post you would like to quote.
- Remember to click Post reply when you're done.
- For photos you like, give your vote of approval by clicking the ‘Get My Vote!’ button under the photo.

Submit a photo
Want to add a photo to Community? It’s easy!
- Click the Add photo button.
- Enter a title for your photo in the text area provided.
- Enter some key word tags in the text area provided – this will help others find your photo.
- Click Browse and locate where your photo is saved on your computer and select it. The path to your photo should now appear in the upload photo text area.
- Lastly add a description to your photo in the text area provided and click Upload.
Your photo is now published for other members to view, comment and vote on your picture. Your photo is also now available for you to include in discussions posts and blogs.
My Photos
Keep a track of the photos you have uploaded by clicking the My Photos button from the photos page. You can also access this information via the My Profile page.
How do I blog?
To view the Community blogs, click on the Blogs tab from the community homepage.
From here you can:
Read
- Scroll through the pages to find blogs that interest you.
- Click on any blog to read what other members are saying.
Respond/Comment
If there's something in a blog you want to respond to,
- enter your response or comment in the text box provided
- remember to click Post Reply when you're done. Your comments are then visible to the community.
Add a blog
Have something to say on a topic or issue? Want to share a story and photos with friends and family? Want to share some hints and tips?
It’s easy to start your own blog,
- Click the Write blog button and type away!
- Enter a title for your blog in the field provided.
- Add some keyword tags to the tags field so your blog can be easily found by other users.
- If you would like to include a Picture in your blog click the Browse button and locate where your photo is saved on your computer and select it. The path to your photo should now appear in the picture text area.
- Type your blog in the blog post text area provided, once your happy with your blog entry hit the Post blog button to publish your blog.
Note: if you have uploaded any photos to Community via the photos page you will notice that these are also available for inclusion in your blog to do so simply click the image you would like to add to your blog and the code will automatically be included in your blog post and will display once published.
My Blogs
Keep a track of blogs you have posted by clicking the My Blogs button from the blogs page. You can also access this information via the My Profile page.

Comment & vote
If there's a video you have watched and would like to comment on,
- click the video and post your comment in the text area provided
- You can also include the original posting in your reply - to do so click the Quote link located below the post you would like to quote.
- remember to click Post Reply when you're done
- you can also give videos you like your vote of approval by clicking the ‘Get My Vote!’ button under the photo.

Submit (Embed) a video
Want to add a video to Community? It’s easy.
- Click the Add video button.
- Enter the URL of your video and click Fetch video.
- The title, tags and description you provided when you originally uploaded your video should automatically display. You can add to them if you like by entering some more keyword tags in the text area provided – this will help others find your photo easier or you can change details in the title and description fields if required.
- Once you’re happy with your video title, tags and description click Submit video.
Your video is now published and others can view, comment and vote on your video.
My Videos
Keep a track of the videos you have uploaded by clicking the My Videos button from the videos page. You can also access this information via the My Profile page.
What are Tags?
A tag is a (relevant) keyword or term associated with or assigned to a piece of information (e.g. a picture, article, or video clip), that helps to describe the item and enables keyword-based classification of information.
Choose tags that best describe your content so it can be easily found by other users.
Add Tag
If you would like to add more tags to content you have submitted to make it easier for others to find simply click the photo, video or blog whatever it may be and to the right you will notice an Add Tag text area – enter the keyword tag you would like to add and click the Add button. Your keyword will now appear in the keywords tags box above.
Delete Tag
You can remove tags from the keyword tags box by simply clicking the small x icon located next to the keyword.
How do I edit my videos, blogs, discussions, and photos?
To edit content you have uploaded simply,
- click on the item whether it be a photo, video, discussion or blog
- click the Edit button
- make any changes you would like
- update your changes by clicking the appropriate button.
Note: You can only edit content that you have submitted.
How do I edit my profile?
To make any changes to your profile, sign in then click the My Profile tab from the Community homepage.
From here you can:
View
View your contributions to community – photos and videos you have submitted, discussions you have participated in and articles you have contributed.
Edit profile
Clicking the Edit profile button gives you the option to,
- Change Password, Email Address, Name, Location, Interests and Communication Options
To change any of your personal details you submitted during registration edit the text fields and click update to have your changes automatically submitted.
- Change your display picture/avatar
To change your display picture/avatar,
- • click Browse, to locate where your photo is saved on your computer
- • select it then the path to your photo should appear
- • click the change button and your avatar is automatically updated.
Be a responsible Community member
Have you found something in one of our community sites you think contravenes our guidelines? Be a conscientious community member and report any potential offences by email.
Remember, it is not ‘dobbing someone in', it's keeping a fair and level playing field for all that want to use our community sites. Trading Post moderators will handle your report with discretion and will not reveal any of your details to the Trading Post member who posted the original content.

Trading Post Communities
Trading Post Communities is the term we use to refer to the Trading Post community sites:
- Community Pets
- Community Outdoors
Registration across these two sites is universal so once you sign up for one, you can use that same username and password to participate in the other if you wish.
Registration
Registering with the Trading Post Community sites is a completely separate registration process to that of the Trading Post.
To be able to upload content, contribute to discussions, share photos and videos you will need to be a registered user of the Trading Post Communities (Community Pets, Community Outdoor).
To register simply click the ‘Register’ link and fill out the registration form.
Once you have completed the form with the relevant details click the Sign up button and your done. Your account is automatically created and you should now be logged in.
Now you’re ready to start uploading content and contributing to the Community!
